The Rams were not going to win every game this year, but that first loss still hurts. The Hinsdale Central Red Devils defeated the DePaul Prep Rams 45-44 in the final game of the second day of their own Hinsdale Central Holiday Classic.
The Hinsdale Central Red Devils came with a plan to shut down Dylan Arnett and that they did. I don’t know how many points he scored. Obviously, he scored but he did not dominate the way he has much of the season.
And it was the worst officiated games that I have seen in years. A ton of fouls called in the first have, particularly fouls away from the ball. The blizzard of fouls did not necessarily favor one team or the other. There were good calls and bad calls on both teams. The problem was that the Rams shot poorly from the free throw line, uncharacteristically so. This stopped them from pulling away from the Red Devils in the second quarter as the would have with half way decent foul shooting.
The blizzard of fouls turned into a dusting in the second half. It was a close game the whole way. Never more than four points separated the teams. Both teams played well. The Rams had a few late turnovers that stalled their comeback.
Red Devils 45, Rams 44.
I guess there are some consolation games in the HCHC but I don’t care about them. Let’s just get on with the Catholic League schedule.
